Hi, I'm a cartoonist and web animator, I love to draw stuff, watch toons and play games.
I want to enjoy my life as best as I can. I live to learn and I strive to improve myself and my skillset everyday.
After a long Christmas break, I’m ready to go back to work and create new cartoon characters and game assets.
Right now, I’m trying to create a set of basic character models, which could be quickly modified and animated. The basic set will consist of five male and three female characters. Later, I will add one or two equine characters, and if the time permits other animal characters.
Each character will be animated to move in four basic directions. It will be a lot of work, but I believe that at the end, I will be rewarded by having a great collection of game assets to work with and a bigger portfolio. I also hope that I will level up my skills while working on this. At the moment, I have no plans to create files for the isometric projection.
I will concurrently work on the graphics for an independent strategy game on which I’ve collaborated for the last three years. I will try to do my best to manage my time properly and to be as effective and productive as I can be.
I want to wish all of my readers a happy new year 2018. I hope you’ll have a great year filled with joy and happiness!
Today, I worked in Inkscape and redraw some of the characters that I had previously sketched in MyPaint.
Tomorrow I will add some bodies and poses to these busts to have complete characters, which would be suitable both for use in graphic assets kits for 2D games and for royalty free licensing via microstock agencies.
I’ve been interested in game development for many years, and I’ve worked on several unfinished gaming projects (I’m still working on one of them). During that time I had created or half-created many graphic assets, and I think that some of them could still be useful to someone.
I would like to help programmers who are just starting out and need graphics for their freeware games or placeholder images for testing and learning purposes. The best way to achieve this goal is to create complete graphic kits that would contain everything necessary to complete simple 2D games. The kits would include sprites, tiles, backgrounds, character portraits and GUI.
I will start by creating a kit for platformer and sidescroller games because I already have most of the necessary images. I need to slightly improve them, then I will create new animated sprite sheets, either in Spriter Pro or Dragon Bones Pro.
Here is an example of the graphic style that I will use in the first game assets kit.
I will grant everyone the right to use the images in their personal projects or freeware games. The only condition for non-commercial use of these assets will be that I must receive a credit (something like ‘graphics created by Radka Kavalcova – radka.blog’).
What do you think about this idea of mine, dear readers? Is anybody interested in this project? Any ideas? I’d love to see your feedback and comments on this. Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
I’ve submitted several new images to Fotolia and other micro-stock agencies, including these two images:
I still have dozens of sketches waiting to be redrawn, hopefully I’ll do it as soon as possible.
I’m still sorting through files on my old hard drive in hope that I will find something usable or interesting.
Today, I’ve found old concept illustrations for possible title screen for ‘Arcane Guardians’. These files were made in January 2015, and I can’t believe that the game is still not finished. I really need to spend more time working on it.
I’ve made another quick illustration in Affinity Designer.
Here is the version with my original colors, which I’ve changed, because I thought it would be funny to make an astronaut into a cosmonaut.
I planned to redraw the sketch below, but I’ve decided to save time and do a less detailed version of the illustration. I will probably revise the sketch and redraw it again so I can submit it to microstock agencies.
